We’re River and Joy — an artist and an educator who believe that language and creativity belong together.
Joy is an English teacher and writer from the UK with more than twenty years’ experience in education, schools, and educational leadership around the world. River is an artist and writer from New Jersey, now based in Thailand, with an extensive background in fine art, photography, and creative practice.
After years of working in classrooms, studios, and workshops, we wanted to create a space that felt more personal — combining our shared passions for English language learning and creative expression. R&J English Studio grew from a simple motivation: to build a quiet, supportive space for educators, artists, and adult learners who see language not just as a skill, but as a way to connect, imagine, and care.
We teach online English lessons with empathy, curiosity, and joy. Every lesson is designed around the learner, not a template, because we believe language grows best when it’s lived, not memorised.
